This transcription is of pp926-927 of Trades and Professions from a Directory of Sheffield of unknown date. When I transcribed it in 2000, my memory told me it was from 1817, but subsequent comments from users have suggested it is considerably later. Sadly now, since I was so convinced it was from 1817, I am no longer sure what date it is from; however my estimate based on other sources would be 1840s-50s and no later than 1860.Two pages is a drop in the ocean, you might think, and especially since I don't have a date for it; however having once transcribed it, I am reluctant to throw it away!

This extract includes Comb Manufacturers, seemingly unusually specialised professionals now, but until the mid 19th Century all combs were carved laboriously by hand, mainly out of bone, or tortoiseshell.
