Inside St Edmund's Church, Maids Moreton
Fan vaulting to the porches and tower, the latter also with a curious fan vaulted canopy over the west doorway. Just nave and chancel, not large but beautifully proportioned and detailed. Low pitched roofs, a dark timber screen with panelled single light divisions, both of the same period and later outer doorway to the north porch dated 1637. The stonework in the ornate sedilia is exquisite whilst the back wall has a damaged depiction of Last Supper, although the paint which remains retains some quite vibrant colours. The bowl of the font is an ornate Norman design, but the base is no earlier than the church itself. (Commentary provided by Phil Draper) |
