MEMORIES OF CROMFORD The members of Cromford WI have done their village proud with this inexpensive book which they describe as 'A Derbyshire Village seen through the eyes of its people 1900 - 2000'. Produced with the aid of an 'Awards for All' lottery grant, and clearly with enormous help and support from former and current inhabitants of Cromford, copies have been given to every household in the village, a scheme which proved very popular in Winster last year. Visible changes during this past century have not been too detrimental at Cromford, allowing for the effects of progress which affect all communities. Even so, the personal recollections assembled in this book are invaluable, backed up by twelve pages of photographs spanning the 20th century - street scenes, street parties, carnivals and even the circus. Lovely colour photographs by Julie Barton illustrate the front and back covers. |

If the people of Cromford and thereabouts, past and present, do not mind a word of advice from a book lover, do make sure that all your children are given a copy of Memories of Cromford to take with them into the future. The price is only £2.25 and orders can be telephoned to Janet Chambers, Hon Treasurer of the WI, on 01629 822319.
