Edale, Rowbotham (Rowbottom) Graves


These gravestones are lined up against a wall in the field/graveyard opposite Holy Trinity Church, Edale.

The stone on the far right of the photo commemorates 4 generations of ROWBOTHAMs, beginning with Sheila's 8 Xgt grandfather:
John ROWBOTHAM de Car Bank, 1624-1682, and wife Mary ??
His son Robert ROWBOTHAM 1645-1716, married Allis BANCROFT;
His son Gilbert ROWBOTHAM 1678-1719, married Sarah PICKFORD;
His son Nathaniel ROWBOTHAM, 1713-1778, married Mary HADFIELD of Eyam.

The family had left Edale by the next generation. Philemon ROWBOTHAM, born 1748, was married to Ann SHIRT, and died at Bowden Edge in 1817.
