Old Postcard of A.F. Hancock's Shop (1935), Grindleford
Scene outside A.F. HANCOCK's shop in Grindleford in 1935. Alan Jacques (the submitter's) Mum Elsie, stands outside the door beside Errand Boy Charlie PENNOCK, who very sadly was killed in WW2. The window display is possibly for the Silver Jubilee of George V(?) Next door on the left is William DEACON's Bank. Alan has also very kindly supplied another photograph of A.F. Hancock's Shop in 1940, and its webpage provides more details about the shop. See also Tales my Father told me about Grindleford - “Life from behind the counter” for more information, and for other tales of Grindleford folk. (Commentary provided by Rosemary Lockie) |
