Old Postcard of Family Gathering, Grindleford
We don't know where this house is! Alan wonders if it's a house off Sir William Hill, which was formerly called ‘Four Gates’, but I was wondering what the Reverend Gentleman in the middle, just to the right of the door would be doing there! The Rector for the parish would have lived in Eyam. The roof, and chimneys, are rolled off the conveyor line from Stoke Quarry, being very much like any other in the village, but the lintels above the windows are shaped, and it's more than the traditional two-up/two-down, as it has an extra window over the portico - a house belonging to someone of substance, most likely. The ladies are still wearing long skirts, so must be pre-1920s. This is one of several old postcards contributed to the ‘Grindleford Then and Now’ Exhibition in October 2004.
