Old Postcard of The Maynard Arms (c.1908), Grindleford

Grindleford, The Maynard Arms (c.1908)

This photograph was taken during the construction of The Maynard Arms Hotel, believed to be about 1908. The Hotel was so called because the land on which it was built - and in fact a large portion of Nether Padley itself - was owned by the prestigious Maynard family. The scaffolding poles were wooden!

(Commentary provided by Rosemary Lockie)

This is one of several old photographs acquired after a sort-out at the Peak National Park Authority's Study Centre.
