Old Postcard of Nether Padley Farm & Cottages (2), Grindleford
This postcard shows a view of the Main Road through the village from a viewpoint just beyond that of the previous Main Road postcard. It is possibly of a later date as the cottage on the left facing towards us has a bush growing in front of it. Or perhaps the previous view is later, after the bush has been cut down! I had thought originally this photograph was taken looking up from the Bridge towards the turning up Sir William Hill (B6001) on the right. I still can't quite get my head round two spots in the same village looking so alike, but I'm told this is Nether Padley Farm (on the left), with Cottages. Nether Padley Farm, and its buildings are still there, but the cottage above it would be yet another casualty of road widening, with little remaining of the cottages and smallholding on the right except some ruins. A bit like the card really.. The original was badly damaged (see thumbnail below) but it has been digitally restored. Isn't JASC software's PaintShop Pro v.7 wonderful!
(Commentary provided by Rosemary Lockie) This is one of several old photographs acquired after a sort-out at the Peak National Park Authority's Study Centre. |
