Old Postcard of Swallow Nest Cottage, Grindleford

Grindleford, Swallow Nest Cottage

‘Swallow Nest Cottage’ was partially demolished for road-widening in c.1958. The distinctive Methodist Chapel, Grindleford can be seen in the background, so this photograph is post-1905, after the Chapel was built.

Thanks to Alan Jacques for pointing out that the left side of the postcard had been cut and ‘Low Nest’ was not the cottage's full name! Visit his site of Tales my Father told me about Grindleford for some fascinating stories.

(Commentary provided by Rosemary Lockie)

This is one of several old photographs acquired after a sort-out at the Peak National Park Authority's Study Centre.
