Old Postcard of The Village, Grindleford

Grindleford, The Village

This shows a scene prior to when the Village Post Office was built. It now occupies what can be seen as a vacant plot next to the row of shops on the left. The Old Blacksmith's Shop is readily identifiable in the mid-foreground, visually behind, and just to right of the cart. The Old Red Lion Inn was in the row of houses and shops on the right of the roadway running left to right on this postcard (the main road through the village, B6521).

The view appears to have been taken from the other side of the Bridge across the River Derwent, before the present footbridge was built. It's just possible to see the bridge parapet on the left of the photograph.

(Commentary provided by Rosemary Lockie)

This is one of the postcards in ‘The Reeves Collection’.
In other words, it belonged to my mother.
