Pictures of the Past : The Viaduct, Millers Dale
Millers Dale Railway Station was formerly to the right of the viaduct, but was closed in the late 1950s - a casualty of ‘The Beeching Axe’. In its heyday, the viaduct would have carried rail traffic between such widely spaced locations as Liverpool and London, now it carries pedestrian traffic only along the Monsal Trail. The road alongside the river (River Wye), is now the B6049 between Tideswell and Buxton. The reverse of this postcard is blank. (Commentary provided by Rosemary Lockie) |
