Old Postcard of Statue of Fair Flora (c1930s), Stoke

Stoke, Statue of Fair Flora (c1930s)

This photograph was taken possibly in the 1930s after surrounding trees were cut. The encroaching woodland doesn't allow such a clear view over the village today. The lady on the photograph is my mother - Ada ("Mollie") Reeves, born 30 April 1905 at Goatscliffe, Grindleford.

An account of the “legend” of Fair Flora is available on a separate web page.

(Commentary provided by Rosemary Lockie)

This is one of the postcards in ‘The Reeves Collection’.
In other words, it belonged to my mother.
