Old Postcard of Mag Clough Valley, Stoke

Stoke, Mag Clough Valley

This postcard shows a view of the Mag Clough valley, and Goatscliffe. The main road crosses the photograph from left to right, and there is what looks like a field of wheat just below the road on the left, with the stooks being left to dry before harvesting. On the right are the backs of Goatscliffe Cottages, and Grindleford Laundry, which dates the postcard post-1911, when this row of houses was known to have been built. However the present day 'Council Houses' aren't yet built, on the opposite side of the road to Goatscliffe Cottages, thus dating it prior to the 1950s.

The houses on the hillside are Goatscliffe Farm, and 2 other cottages, which can be seen to have changed very little (from a distance, at least) on a more modern Aerial View of the same buildings.
