Old Postcard of Mum and Willis, Stoke

Stoke, Mum and Willis

This photograph is of my mother with Willis IBBOTSON (who lived in one of the Flora Cottages at Stoke). The scene is at Goatscliffe, overlooking Grindleford Village before much of the 20th Century housing was built. It's evening - the sun is catching the backs of the former Council Houses (the houses nearest), and it looks like it might have been late spring, with hawthorne blossom in bloom (the tree on the other side of the valley, showing immediately above my mother's head). The building in the corner of that field used to be an old barn - it's just possible to see where the doorway was in the side. It has already lost its roof in this photo, but since then it has fallen down almost completely.

The photograph probably dates from late 1920s to early 1930s.

(Commentary provided by Rosemary Lockie)

This is one of the postcards in ‘The Reeves Collection’.
In other words, it belonged to my mother.
