Pictures of the Past : The Ball Inn, Stoney Middleton
This view is very similar to another in this collection, showing the Dale, and Shining Rock, or “Shiny Cliff”. However this one provides a closer view of the Ball Inn, and perhaps even its Inn Sign (attached to the building on the right at first floor level, between the 2 windows). The building itself appears to have been stables, since a closeup shows two doorways with what appear to be half-doors associated with keeping horses.
The colours are delightful, but I cannot imagine they are authentic! Or are they? Perhaps the walls may have been given an ochre ‘wash’? (Commentary provided by Rosemary Lockie) |
