Pictures of the Past : The Dale Bottom, Stoney Middleton
This postcard shows The Grouse Inn in the middle distance (3rd building from the left), with its bay window on the ground floor jutting out into the street. As may be seen, there are four windows in the upper floor, but the lettering on the front of the building is indistinct. It is however visible on other old postcards - between the nearest two windows it says “The Grouse Inn”; between the next two (in the middle) it says “Wines and Spirits” and at the far end “Tennants' Ales & Stouts”. There is the usual licensee's sign above the doorway. (Commentary provided by Rosemary Lockie) |
