Stoney Middleton, Old Postcard or Photograph of 'Shiny Cliff'

Variously called ‘Castle Rock’ and ‘Shining Cliff’, both can be seen as appropriate in viewing this harsh limestone edge, which today is softened by trees that have grown up around it.

The road junction has changed too. The grassy triangle is no more, and the road down Eyam Dale now meets the Middleton Dale at a ‘T’ junction, whereas the road on the opposite side (with the gate across it on this photograph) is now scarcely apparent. Note also there appears to be a horse grazing the grass on the triangle!

(Commentary provided by Rosemary Lockie)

This is one of a series of postcards sent to Andrew's grandmother, Mary Elizabeth McCann (née Bamford) by friends and relatives living in Eyam.
