Stoney Middleton, Old Postcard or Photograph of The Village Street

The street is now known as the High Street, and this scene looks down towards its junction with the main A619 Trunk Road passing through the village. It is much changed today however; some buildings have been pulled down, but on the left of the street, directly behind the horse, can be seen the distinctive twin gables of the house next to the present day school building.

The lady leaning against the wall is believed to be Maria GODDARD (née BAMFORD), great grandmother of both Ilah and myself. Here also was the site of The Lodging House, run by her father in law Henry GODDARD.

An enlarged version (130K) is available for those who would like a closer look.
