View of Riber, Snitterton (Wensley)

It is not possible to travel far from Matlock without seeing the skulking hulk which is Riber Castle on the skyline! This view looks across Snitterton from Wensley, zoomed; a trompe de l'oeil photograph, as everything looks closer than it really is. From Wensley to Snitterton Hall is about 1 mile and from the Hall to Riber Castle is a further 2 miles as the crow flies.

Completely hidden from view because of the elevation are Starkholmes village below Riber, and Matlock Dale below Starkholmes.

The hill above Snitterton (to the right in the photo) is Masson, which rises to 1100 ft above sea level. Though not the biggest hill in the Matlock area, it is probably the most well-known!
