St Andrew's Church, Clayhidon

Clayhidon, St Andrew's Church

St Andrew's is superbly sited on the edge of the Blackdown Hills with views over the Culm Valley. Rendered Perpendicular west tower with angle pinnacles and a broad south-east square stair turret with its own angle pinnacles. It gets four lines in the revised Pevsner, and should have more. Missed out completely is a tomb recess in the south aisle which has an effigy of what appears to be a late 13th century knight on his side and half sunken into the floor.

A photograph of the interior of St Andrew's Church (with further commentary) is also available.
