St Andrew's Church, Clayhidon
St Andrew's is superbly sited on the edge of the Blackdown Hills with views over the Culm Valley. Rendered Perpendicular west tower with angle pinnacles and a broad south-east square stair turret with its own angle pinnacles. It gets four lines in the revised Pevsner, and should have more. Missed out completely is a tomb recess in the south aisle which has an effigy of what appears to be a late 13th century knight on his side and half sunken into the floor. A photograph of the interior of St Andrew's Church (with further commentary) is also available. (Commentary provided by Phil Draper) |
