he was the youngest s/o George DOWDESWELL, Esqr, M.D &
Elizabeth his wife, and nephew of the Right Hon, William DOWDESWELL
of Pull Court in this county.
In very early life Mr DOWDESWELL went to India, in the Bengal Civil Service
where he attained the highest destinction, became Vice President in Council
and Deputy Governor of India. He won the respect and esteem of all around
him by his integrity and amiability. After seven years and thirty years service
in India, he sought in retirement in this county, that happiness which in his
domestic circle he himself constituted in August 1823, he married
Mary Anne Rose EGERTON
This tablet is erected to the memory of
George Francis DOWDESWELL, M.A., F.R.M.S., F.L.S., & F.C.S
Eldest s/o George DOWDESWELL Esq and Mary Ann Rose, his wife
Of The Down House in this parish, late Captain, 89th Foot. He served with
Distinction throughout the Chinese Campaign 1860-1866, under Sir Dighton
PROBYN, K.C.B, upon his retirement from H.M. Service. He devoted himself
to science in which he greatly distinguished himself. He died 5 October 1891 age 62

17 August 1830, died of Cholera at Desa Doon in Bengal, 31 August 1861.
This table is erected in token of regard by his brother officers
To the memory of Major General, Sir Henry Gee ROBERETS, K.C.B,
H.M. Bombay Army who after forty years of an eminent military and
political career and distinguished service in the field during the Indian Mutiny
in 1857 for which he received the thanks of both Houses of Parliament.
Died at he residence, Hazeldine House in this parish, October 6th 1860 age 60yrs
