Old Brewery, Brockhampton (Sevenhampton)

Brockhampton (Sevenhampton), Old Brewery

A copy of a deed for these buildings dated 1770, describes them as “farmhouse, malthouse and bakehouse”. The present address is however “The Old Brewery” as during part of the 19th and 20th century, the Coombs family brewed their locally famous beer here, hence the need for the building with the tall red brick chimney, which dominates the landscape locally.

The premises are now divided up into different dwellings, two of which are occupied by descendents of the Coombs family.

The above information was kindly provided by Anthony Fletcher, a descendant of the Wood family, who owned the property in the late 1700s. They were shoe makers, and lived in the village until the 1930s.
