Village Green, Almeley
This view of the Village Green from the Churchyard shows a signpost indicating Hereford and Lyonshall on the left, Kinnersley on the right, and Kington and Eardisley towards us. The sign at the bottom says ‘Alternative route for Long vehicles’. There is an interesting old sign on the wooden-sided building, just below the eaves. It is circular, with black lettering on yellow, and has an ‘AA’ (Automobile Association) badge at the top. On a band across the centre it says ‘Almeley’, with ‘Hereford 11’ above, and ‘Kington 6’ below. There are more words below Kington, but I can't read them from my photograph. The modern road sign doesn't include mileage distances. (Commentary provided by Rosemary Lockie) |
