Donnington, Canon Bannister's Memorial

Donnington Churchyard's most unusual (and prestigious) memorial is to Canon Arthur Thomas BANNISTER (1861-1936) former Master of St Katherine's in Ledbury. The Hereford Times of 1st August 1936 reported that his “Burial took place in an ivy-lined grave adjoing that of the late Sir John Mitchell, who died in 1931 and was a close friend of Canon Bannister”.

The epitaph (on the base of the bird-bath) reads:
Arthur Thomas BANNISTER M.A. D.Litt. F.R.H.S.
Canon of Hereford,
And Master of St Katherine's
Ledbury / July 26th 1936.

Sir John MITCHELL's memorial is indeed next to it - the one we can see on the photograph with the low railings surrounding it. Sir John's wife Bertha's epitaph is on the face nearest us, and his is on the opposite side.
