Inside St John the Baptist's Church, Keyston
Without an umbrella I unlocked the door and entered the church. Droppings indeed were everywhere - worryingly too on the most prized possession (IMHO) a wooden giant effigy, the cadaver wizened and contorted and rather gruesome. The church itself is rather handsome, with wide late Perpendicular transepts and clerestoried nave and aisles. The principle fittings (font, pulpit) are 19th century. The roof of the south transept has odd rather spooky faces at the end of the beams. (Commentary provided by Phil Draper) |
