Blackpool, Old Postcard or Photograph of North Promenade & Cliffs

The source for this image is a old postcard, dated around 1917. The correspondence is written in pencil, and reads:

‘Dear Bettie, Thank you so much for your nice letter. I received it this morning. I am glad to hear that the under nurse is decent. love Janey. XXXXXX.’

It is addressed to Miss R B Reeves, Farfield, Buttershaw, Bradford (my aunt, Ruth Betsy Reeves (1894-1950), and postmarked ‘Blackpool 7.30 20 JUL 17’. I am not sure why Janey calls her ‘Bettie’, nor why the under nurse being ‘decent’ might have been significant, although I do feel that ‘decent’ here means the nurse was fair, and equable, rather than the more commonplace meaning today of being the opposite of indecent.

One of the postcards from ‘The Reeves Collection’.
In other words, it belonged to my mother.
