Pictures of the Past : North Promenade & Cliffs, Blackpool
The source for this image is a old postcard, dated around 1917. The correspondence is written in pencil, and reads:
It is addressed to Miss R B Reeves, Farfield, Buttershaw, Bradford (my aunt, Ruth Betsy Reeves (1894-1950), and postmarked ‘Blackpool 7.30 20 JUL 17’. I am not sure why Janey calls her ‘Bettie’, nor why the under nurse being ‘decent’ might have been significant, although I do feel that ‘decent’ here means the nurse was fair, and equable, rather than the more commonplace meaning today of being the opposite of indecent. One of the postcards from ‘The Reeves Collection’. (Commentary provided by Rosemary Lockie) |
