St Michael's Church, Michaelstone-y-Fedw
Big defensive looking west tower, nave and chancel with south transept. From the tower to the altar is quite an uphill climb inside. Scraped interior, quite pleasant, the nave roof supposedly in part medieval but what looks an entirely new construction, at the most 110 years old. The only monuments were in the transept, which was screened off in 1974. The most interesting feature is however the font, like St James in Piccadilly but without Adam and Eve. A serpent twists round a tree trunk which supports a bowl decorated by upright leaves - 18th century. This view is from the north east. A photograph of St Michael's Church (The Font) is also available. (Commentary provided by Phil Draper) |
