St Catherine's Church, Teversal
St Catherine's Church, Teversal, Nottinghamshire is another “Churchcrawler's Church”, which we entered via the priest's door. Outside appeared mainly 17th century thanks to the windows, with an early tower. Through the chained porch gates the Norman doorway could be seen, unusually with small medallions containing sculpture - three fishes, agnus dei, and a serpent amongst them. The porch seems an integral part of a widened south aisle - of a similar 12th century date probably as the tower, unbuttressed, with later parapet - Pevsner ignores it completely. A photograph of the interior of St Catherine's Church is also available, also the first of three photographs of Monuments to the Molyneux Family. (Commentary provided by Phil Draper) |
