Inside St George's Church, Beckington
Inside the tower is altered with a tall panelled arch and fan vault to go with the large five-light west window. The nave roof is also impressive - is it medieval or 17th century? Two over-large corbels support the north aisle roof along with those of a more sedate size! Handsome Jacobean screen to the south chapel (now vestry). The chancel and vestry are burglar-alarmed and signs warn you of this, yet the guide recommends you lift the carpet in both to view the brasses and also admire the two monuments with effigies in the chancel... However the brasses in situ are in fact copies. In the south aisle there is an impressive window with St George by Shrigley & Hunt, also stone Royal Arms, dated 1574.
