St John the Baptist's Church, Biddisham

Biddisham, St John the Baptist's Church

I have driven through here countless of times without realising there was a church here! Lurks off the A38 almost at the end of a cul de sac. Like Langley Burrell yesterday it is well hidden among the trees. Bulky west tower, its lower stage has a considerable lean; the upper stage which looks Victorian is built more upright. The church itself looks either a complete rebuilding or an over-restoration. It is long and narrow as well as without aisles. The tower west window has glass (“Millenium Window”) by John and Laura Gilroy of Fishponds, Bristol. It depicts the church in a rural setting below with the text “Of there his shall be kingdom no end” or so it seems to someone reading left to right......rather than down one column then the next! (Of his kingdom....)
