Alton, The Old Surgery

The end of an era.

The first resident doctor to be found is William HOLLIS. In the 1820's, he was classed as a Surgeon, and the address was “Stone Farm House, Alton”.

From 1851-1871 the doctor was Thomas ROBINSON M.R.C.S. London, Surgeon & G.P. - the address was the same.

From 1881-1901 it was James T HALL, born at Cauldon, Staffs (just a few miles from Alton) L.R.C.P & M.R.C.S., Physician & Surgeon, and the address was “The Stone, Alton”.

Other residents were Doctors Wilson, Bearblock, Chalmers, Webster, followed by his son, the last and still resident Doctor V Webster, now retired. The surgery closed its doors to patients 3rd July 2006 and moved to temporary premises in Alton before moving to the new surgery. The address of the old surgery was “Stone House, Malthouse Road, Alton”.

The new surgery, Alton Primary Care Centre, opened it doors on Monday 28th August 2006 at Hurstons Lane Alton. Dr Brown is the first G.P there.
