This stone is erected by subscriptions
to the memory of Mary MALPAS,
d/o John & Ann MALPAS who at the
early age of 15 years and 10 months was on the
night of June 28th 1835 moft basely and cruelly murdered
in Chapel Field, Hunsterston by Thomas BAGGULEY,
an elderly married man. He escaped the punishment of the law
by adding his own death to that of his innocent victim.

He was born August the 16th 1783 - married June the 21st 1814
to Elizabeth, the younger daughter of
Sir Thomas FLETCHER, Baronet of Betley Court
by whom he had issue five sons and four daughters
and died March the 10th 1865. For a period of twenty-three
year he discharged the laborious duties
of Chairman of Quarter Sessions for the County of Stafford
with remarkable ability and disinterested zeal

November the 6th 1785 and died July the 18th 1863
